I've been thinking about this for a while and have been on the Royal Road site for 3 years now, lurking. @Aethalope inspired me when she started posting her chapters on there. And so, I did it! I posted the first chapter of my book on there. It was such a rush to actually do it rather than deliberate over it.

I seem to be entering a stage of dong instead of mulling. Recently I entered 3 writing competitions. The doing is a lot of fun, which seems to be the take away.

Yes for swaps! That would be great. (Not sure how to do that, but whatever it is, I'll do it!) I've started re-reading yours from the start. Going to catch up to where you're posting, and then stay current! You are prolific, so I need to get my skates on. lol

I need help with how stuff works there. I've just favourited your book too. Didn't know to do that before. Doh. Not sure if I can rate it before finishing it? Oh, I see you have with mine. Okay, I guess you can! I just rated yours. I did the "Voidhold Zero" All chapters book. Is that the one I should be doing? Sorry, I'll have a proper poke around and see what's what. There's a lot going on with the site. Hopefully it'll get easier to navigate as I go.

Hey again! I might put my comic fantasy on there too, if I can piece together a cover for it. I'm sure I'll find it just as daunting.

Now that I'm writing again, I've nearly finished going through your beta read (that must be the longest response rate in history 😂 ) and implemented almost everything. It's been absolutely invaluable, so thank you again!
 
Loved chapter 1! I left you a review. I included some very mild critique - was going to DM that part to you instead of posting it publicly, but then thought it will make the review more credible, which is ultimately better for you, if you see what I mean. Hope that's ok.

A friend (the one who left the other review) has encouraged me to post a chapter a day, so I just dropped chapter 2. I mean, the book is complete, so I guess there's no need to hold out.

I'm so glad to hear you're writing again! You should totally post on RR. It's kind of an easy way to step into the fray, I'm finding. Get amongst it! And when you do, let us know.

Thank you! Yes I think that'll be a good way to get used to writing being out there.

Covers... ugh. I've got absolutely nothing for this one. Though I'll definitely be posting for feedback on the sci fi :)
 
I remember this opening, Lyse, (@LJ Beck ). The interesting thing is, I don’t really see much in the opening that says this is Sci-Fi.

That said, it opens well, the reading is easy, the action moves along, it flows well between action and internal D, because as you know, I don’t like it when writers put too much in, slowing the scene down. There’re just enough cookies to wonder what it’s all about. I love the last para about kidnapping; his own daughter? Why did he have to do that? Well, I know we will find out; that would get me to read the next chapter.

I love the emotion between the Ash and Mila. And the chapter is just long enough to hook the reader. And screw Vera if she can't handle the truth!

The cover is spectacular too. Looking forward to chapter two.

Thanks so much James!! Means a lot that you like it. Yeah, the sci-fi-ness kind of creeps into the story, which is either good or not good depending on your perspective. My hope is that it’s engaging enough for sci-fi folk to keep going till it kicks in, and for the non-sci-fi folk, they’ll be attached enough to the characters to go along with the sci-fi stuff when it comes. Ha. We’ll see! Royal Road readers vote with their feet.

What would be super helpful if you do keep reading, is knowing where it slows for you, as I’m really keen to cut what I can. The MS is too long now, and I’d like to cut from the first part. I’ll cut what I can before posting (definitely good to come back to this with fresh eyes!) but if there’s more to cut, I’m all ears! That’s a good thing about Royal Road, you can go back and edit the chapters even after they’re posted.
