BIBF international director Sean Xie said Chinese publishers are taking a practical approach to experimentation. "We’re cautious about AI," he said, "but in China, the speed of development is so fast that we have to make decisions quickly. We try things, and if they don’t work, we stop and try something else."
Xie argued that AI is increasingly being deployed throughout publishing workflows in China, and is also being used to support commissioning and acquisition decisions. It is used to help editors identify which subjects readers are interested in and which areas might become important in the future, he noted.
