• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

Like when someone complained in a cookery newsgroup about one of my cake recipes not rising well and not tasting very nice. I was baffled, as it was a tried and tested recipe. So I asked whether they had changed anything, like adding more cocoa - as that will dry a cake out. The reply was along the lines of:
They had replaced the white all-purpose flour with wholemeal bread flour.
They had replaced the sugar with molasses.
They had used carob instead of cocoa.
They hadn't used baking powder.
They had replaced the vegetable oil with "applesauce" - whatever the fuck that is.

Though it was still MY recipe that didn't work.
