• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

Just a quick comment.

Short answer – No, don't give up - but you do have other options now. Litopia is “destination agnostic”. We’re not here to push one or other alternatives onto writers. We will help you towards whichever destination is right for you.

Longer answer…

“Misunderstanding the timeline can lead to unnecessary discouragement.”

Um, no. That really isn’t the core of the situation. What we’re seeing is a bifurcation, two really quite separate industries are being created (yes, “trad” publishing is reinventing itself, so in that sense, it’s a new industry too).

Trad publishing is increasingly focused around proven, commercial-genre writing or in writers who already have a substantial following and potential readership. Other will find it harder to break in, no matter how long they are prepared to wait.

I’m not wild about even writing the above, but I’ve got to call things as i see them..

“Self-publishing is not necessarily faster or easier.”

Well, it is almost always faster – but yes, it’s far from easy.
