• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

The Author Platform (Litopia.com, including all the features it contains such as blogging, author newsletters, podcasting etc) will go into testing mode tomorrow (Tuesday 21st April) at approx 9:30am UK time. Testing will last about three hours, i.e. until approximately 12:30pm the same day.

During this time, you may not be able to access the features you want to… Apologies in advance, but this is an important and necessary part of the Author Platform’s development.

I’ll let you know when testing has concluded.

So to update you…

Litopia.com – your Author Platform – is now out of testing mode.

I expected a long morning’s work – it turned into a very long two days’ work for two guys.

Mostly, we were testing lots and lots of different scenarios, watching the outcome, and then correcting code where necessary. It was strangely dull but also pretty darn intense… both at the same time, which is not something I’ve often experienced.

Anyway, we’re out the other side now, and the code base is much more resilient.

I still don’t vouch that there won’t be edge-case exceptions, so I’d like to encourage you to submit Bug Reports as and when you encounter any problems.

Feature Requests are still extremely welcome, but won’t be incorporated until we’re into phase two development, likely not for 6-8 weeks or so.

Really, now we just need more people to take a deep breath… take your courage in both hands… and take the plunge. Start blogging. Start your podcast. Doesn’t matter how many readers / subscribers you have to begin with. Everyone starts from aught.

It’s what you build and how you build it that counts.

The biggest mistake you can make is to think that building your tribe is something that can wait until you’ve had x number of books published. You need to start now, today.

And, guess what… I think you’re going to enjoy it… :)
