• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

I can see my latest profile updates, from yesterday, in Your content in My account, but not anywhere else.
Are they going anywhere else at all?? Where are my profile updates going??

I also don't seem to be getting any Litbits for posts, not that I'm concerned about that. Just it seems to be connected, maybe.

5 Lit bits should still be automatically awarded for every post in the Lab which is 100 words or over, unless you are the thread starter, in which case you don't get any. I don't think you get them for posting in other forums.
Best way to boost your 'Bits is a win on One Perfect Sentence.

I’m not getting litbits for about half of my posts in reply to others in the lab. I mentioned it to Pete but he must be too busy to reply. I also said to him that couldn’t understand when I did get them and when I didn’t, as there didn’t seem to be any pattern to it that I could fathom.

It should be automated, but unfortunately it doesn't trigger for attachments, so you need to have at least 100 words in the post itself. It's been working for me recently, so check if your posts are long enough.

It would be cool if the writer could award Litbits to the critiques that are most helpful, but this would be too complicated and not impartial.

As it is, you can go off topic, and as long as you waffle enough, get 5 Litbits.

It's not ideal, but it's the simplest system we could come up with for now. Pete has understandably been absorbed in the amazing new Author Platform, but maybe we can review Lab credits at a later date.

Ah, that would explain the randomness of getting them and not. Did not realise the 100 words thing, which surely a lot of posters don’t reach but their attached comments more than include. However, I get the logic re the 100 words threshold. At least I now know why, and so thanks for that.

I wanted to be able to award 10 Litbits for critiques by annotated attachments, but alas it's not possible.

So if you put most of your feedback into a Word attachment on 'Need a Critique' and your actual post is less than 100 words, you get nothing?
@Mel L That's right, and exactly what's been happening to me (I now realise). And as I tend to do a short message and detailed comments, I've missed out on loads. I'm now thinking that it's a bit of a chore to write a 100 words after detailed comments. Can the word count be lower @Sedayne?

Well, that sucks! Not everyone here is necessarily going to focus on the Author Platform.
I was sad to see them go too, hence the request for the archive.
I'm getting used to the Platform updates now. And as Claire said, easy enough to go to What's New.

The old profile posts have been superceded by the new updates on the Author Platform
Thank you for finding that for me.

But, if I've got it right, that means if I do a profile post, no one else can see it...
Why would anyone look in my profile posts archive? If that's even possible.

I might as well open the window and shout.

It's all a bit weird at the moment.
I just tried to access the updates by going through 'what's new' and I found your post from Saturday. But I've no idea how you posted it because I haven't been able to post on my Colony profile for the last week or two.

Updates on the Platform have taken over from profile posts as far as I'm aware, and I'm just getting used to that.

They should still appear on the Colony home page. Mine are to the right on my laptop or under the threads on my phone.

We probably need @AgentPete to clarify the situation.
