• Café Life is the Colony's main hangout, watering hole and meeting point.

This is a place where you'll meet and make writing friends, and indulge in stratospherically-elevated wit or barometrically low humour.

Some Colonists pop in religiously every day before or after work. Others we see here less regularly, but all are equally welcome. Two important grounds rules…

    • Don't give offence

We now allow political discussion, but strongly suggest it takes place in the Steam Room, which is a private sub-forum within Café Life. It’s only accessible to Full Members.

So if you put most of your feedback into a Word attachment on 'Need a Critique' and your actual post is less than 100 words, you get nothing?

That's my experience, but I figure everytime I critique I'm learning something as I admire the writer's imagination. Thems the brakes.

@Mel L That's right, and exactly what's been happening to me (I now realise). And as I tend to do a short message and detailed comments, I've missed out on loads. I'm now thinking that it's a bit of a chore to write a 100 words after detailed comments. Can the word count be lower @Sedayne?

I've missed out over 6 years of comments. Beat yah, lol :)

I agree. There are at least two of us...

Three of us.

I’m not getting litbits for about half of my posts in reply to others in the lab. I mentioned it to Pete but he must be too busy to reply. I also said to him that couldn’t understand when I did get them and when I didn’t, as there didn’t seem to be any pattern to it that I could fathom.
Sorry, Rachael :)

This is scheduled for action but… we do have a ton of essential work to do first. Please bear with us. P.

Yes, Updates have taken over from profile posts – they do exactly the same thing, but have a much wider visibility (e.g. over the past month, we averaged 26k unique visitors a day on Litopia.com. This trend is rising very nicely).

What we don’t have yet is full two-way compatibility between the Colony and Litopia.com i.e. if you want to comment on an Update you currently have to click “Reply” which will then open a new window where you can comment, like - or edit if you’re the Update’s author.

Making this seamlessly two-way compatible, i.e. you can comment & like both from the Colony directly and on Litopia.com – will happen. However, I can’t prioritize that over much more fundamental platform coding at the moment. Be patient, please… and if you haven't yet tried it, do dive into the Platform, too!

Fully agree, RK, the act of critiquing is its own reward (and a rich one indeed!) However, while I didn't ask for a points system (and resist gamification of all kinds), now that it's there I find myself looking for the validation. 😉
